No. 98 - handmade couture preserves.

No. 98 started with an exchange of jams between friends across the globe, grew into an obsessional desire to put any and all produce into jars, and finally became a small company passionate about producing handmade couture preserves.

Rebecca, who has recently been tipped by Time Out London as one of the “hottest food bloggers” (Dec. 1-7 2011), began her quest to build a one-woman preserving empire when she realised the amazing potential of drawing out the lifespan of British produce by putting it in jars. Suddenly the all-too-short strawberry and Pimms season could last into the depths of winter thanks to her strawberry cocktail jam, and the glut of vegetables from her plot could be on her table during the hunger-gap of March in the shape of numerous chutneys and pickles. She never looked back, and spent years perfecting flavours, gaining experience and swapping her produce with those all over the world. Now she is able to spread her passion for preserves all over her local community through No. 98, and around the world with her writing about preserving, most recently in the Food Junctions Cookbook.

No. 98 is a small company passionate about producing handmade couture preserves. We focus on flavour pairing and are dedicated to getting the very best from seasonal produce, so that you can enjoy it year-round. All our products are made in small batches in our kitchen in Surrey. Everything is done by hand, from the chopping and slicing of fruit and vegetables, right down to sticking the labels on our jars!

We love nothing more than talking to people about our produce, which is why you find us manning stalls at local markets. We want to be present when you chose our products so we can tell you about how they came into being, the great local fruit and veg they use, and the inspiration we find in working with British or organic growers. We work seasonally, so often have different preserves available depending on the time of year. There is a natural delay with marmalades and chutneys as these are matured for a fuller, more distinct, flavour.

We are also constantly working to add to our repetoire to bring you interesting and excting new products.

Our standard products are £4.75 a jar; marmalades and special edition preserves are £5.25 a jar.

Presentation gift sets of two jars are available from £9.75.

• Apricot and Vanilla Jam

  The No.98 best seller! A deliciously decadent soft-set jam studded with vanilla seeds. This is a versatile jam that is not only great on toast, but perfect for spooning over yoghurt or ice cream.

• Strawberry Summer Cocktail Jam

  The epitome of summer in a jar! We take a sweet and heady strawberry jam base and add all the goodness of a classic Pimms cocktail. A zesty dash of orange, mint for freshness, and of course, Pimms for a little kick! This is at it's best draped over scones and enjoyed outside in the park on a picnic blanket.

• Plum and Rosemary Jam
• Gooseberry and Elderflower Jam
• Lazy Sunday Seville Marmalade with Malt Whiskey

  This is not a weekday marmalade. Heavily spiked with peaty malt whiskey, this is a true weekend preserve that pairs perfectly with toasted sourdough or wholemeal bread. It's also a great ingredient for basting roast duck or adding to a marmalade cake.

• Genius Chutney

  An English classic, made with stout and packed with crisp vegetables, this is almost, but not quite, a pickle. Try it with a pint and a ploughmans for a perfect country lunch. A great gift if you're looking for a traditional English chutney.

• Hot 'n' Smokey Tomato Chutney

  A fabulously tasty spiced tomato chutney. Great to compliment smoked meats or a fantastic accompaniment to Mediterranean breads and strong salty cheeses such as feta or halloumi.

• Onion and Plum Relish with Star Anise
• Red Onion Marmalade with Port

  A new addition to our jam family, inspired by a crumble that bridged the gap between spring and summer. The sweetness of the peaches tempers the tartness of the rhubarb and the ginger adds a lovely warmth. The fragrance when you open the jar is deliciously tempting!
